Timeline by Contamination Size
- Small (under 10 sq ft): 1–2 days
- Moderate (10–100 sq ft): 3–5 days
- Extensive (over 100 sq ft or multiple rooms): 1–3 weeks
- Reconstruction: Additional 1–4 weeks if drywall, insulation, or flooring requires replacement
Phase-by-Phase Breakdown
- Day 1: Assessment: Moisture mapping, air sampling, scope development
- Days 1–2: Containment setup: Plastic sheeting, negative air pressure, HEPA air scrubbers
- Days 2–5: Remediation: Material removal, surface cleaning, antimicrobial treatment
- Final day: Clearance testing: Air sampling verifies spore counts have returned to acceptable levels
Do You Need to Leave During Remediation?
For small, contained projects, you may be able to remain in unaffected areas. For extensive remediation involving multiple rooms or toxigenic mold species, temporary relocation is recommended. Your insurance policy may cover temporary housing costs.
